BSN Round 15: Vaqueros are defeated by Grises

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Vaqueros (9-4) in Humacao on Thursday night. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Grises (5-10) 84-79. Grises made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American point guard Zavier Simpson (183-1997, college: Michigan) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points and 5 assists. International center Timajh Parker-Rivera (202-1994, college: Towson) helped adding 9 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American-North Macedonian center Jacob Wiley (203-1994, college: EWU) with 18 points and 7 rebounds. Vaqueros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Grises maintains sixth place with 5-10 record. Defending champion Vaqueros still keep top position with four games lost. Grises are looking forward to face Osos (#6) in Manati in the next round. Vaqueros will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Fajardo. Second ranked Cariduros (8-7) saved a 2-point victory at home edging 4th placed Indios (6-8) 81-79 on Friday evening. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Emmanuel Andujar (197-1993, college: Manhattan) who led the winners and scored 24 points. Chris Brady accounted for 21 points. American guard Chaundee Brown Jr. (196-1998, college: Michigan) came up with 20 points and 8 rebounds for Indios in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Cariduros maintains second place with 8-7 record behind leader Quebradillas. Indios lost third consecutive game. They keep the fourth position with eight games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
A very close game took place in Carolina between Gigantes and Leones. Third ranked Gigantes (7-6) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Leones (5-8). Gigantes managed to escape with a 1-point win 90-89 on Friday evening. The best player for the winners was Tremont Waters who scored 24 points and 5 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was Jezreel De Jesus who recorded 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Gigantes maintains third place with 7-6 record having just two points less than leader Quebradillas. Leones lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Guaynabo. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last two games of round 15 Manati lost to Santurce on the opponent's court 98-101. San German managed to outperform Arecibo in a home game 95-90.




Santurce - Manati 101-98

Rather expected game in Santurce where 6th ranked Osos (4-10) were edged by fourth ranked Cangrejeros (6-7) 101-98 on Thursday. Cangrejeros looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Cliff Duran (193-1989) who scored 19 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. American power forward Dewan Hernandez (211-1997, college: Miami, FL) chipped in 27 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international Christopher Ortiz (203-1993, college: Kent St.) who recorded 36 points (!!!) (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) and American forward Davon Jefferson (203-1986, college: USC) added 10 points and 14 rebounds respectively. Four Cangrejeros and five Osos players scored in double figures. Cangrejeros maintains fourth place with 6-7 record. Osos at the other side keep the sixth position with ten games lost. Cangrejeros will meet Mets (#5) in the next round. Osos will play against Grises in Humacao and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Everything could happen in San German at the game between two tied teams. Both third ranked Atleticos and second-best Capitanes had identical 7-4 record. This time Atleticos used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Arecibo 95-90 on Friday night. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Atleticos looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists.
